The single film that has most influenced me is Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. It is the first movie in the Harry Potter series, released in 2001. I have never read the book, yet I still can understand the reason why it was so popular. As a fantasy film in the early 2000s, it surprised most of the viewers at that time. Although the visual effects were not as mature as they are now, the film satisfied the viewers' eyes with an incredible storyline.
Harry Potter is a young boy who finds out that he is the son of two powerful wizards and has superb magical powers that no one has. One day, he is summoned by Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, a school of magic for students aged eleven to eighteen. At there, he finally meets a few friends and they become the closest partners of each other. Then, his best friends decide to help him discover the truth about his parents' deaths.
Overall, for me, the plot of this film is attractive from beginning to the end. It is not easy for a two and a half-hour film to keep the viewers staying focused on the screen entirely. However, Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone did it and nearly took my breath away. It is exciting, funny, tense, and a bit scary, suitable for all young and old. If you are a fan of magic, then this is the film for you.
Besides, there are life lessons that I have learned from this enchanting movie. First and foremost, we should not judge a book by its cover. Harry thought that his teacher, Snape, was the bad guy because he treated him unfairly and looked strange. In reality, Quirrell, another teacher who seemed harmless, was the one hiding Voldemort. Moreover, true friendship will not betray you because of wealth and power. Malfoy, an arrogant and selfish boy, wanted to befriend Harry. Nevertheless, Harry rejected it as he was unhappy with Malfoy's humiliation on his friend, Ron. In this case, we know that Harry is a good friend who is worth making.
When you look at all the VFX in this film now, you may think it is nothing special. But in the early 2000s, undeniably, it was just something else. This film is such a classic, even if you rewatched it after many years, you would still be amazed by it and have a new experience. Finally, welcome to a magic world that will blow your mind!
