Recently, I have finished a short film about the subject of LGBT called Forbidden. Before the film officially started shooting, I invited my two talented friends to form a team and each of us was responsible for a different position. In this project, I was mainly in charge of directing, filming and editing. As for the other two, they were the storyboard writer and the graphic designer respectively. This film was shot differently from my previous works, there was no single dialogue in it. As the director, I wanted to tell the story through the camera without wordy conversation. Besides, the actors were asked to use their body language and expressions to show how struggling homosexuals are. Overall, the short film is simple and meaningful. There are no fancy transitions and various sound effects or music, you just have to enjoy the excellent acting of the actors. I did quite a lot of researches before the shooting, I realized that the LGBT people in Malaysia, my country, are living in pain due to the social restrictions and public negation. I am not one of them, yet I strongly believe that all love should be equally treated and respected. Although people may not support the subject, they should not discriminate against it. Lastly, I hope to convey the concept of love equality through this short film and sincerely wish everyone could face and take their feelings bravely and live a happy life.
